We're announcing the recently introduced support for ecommerce transactions on eSnips. Members who have used eSnips to share and showcase their hobbies, interests and creative work, can now very easily also sell these items if they choose to. Here's how it looks (this is an oil painting that I particularly like. It's called Moon Boy and was painted by Peter Abbott):
We didn't have to be very creative in coming up with this feature, it was very evident from the comments and interactions we saw on our users web eSnips sites. From the very first days since we launched we noticed that that visitors left comments asking if a particular item was for sale, and if so for how much. So it was very clear to all of us at eSnips that the next feature we should introduce is the ability to buy / sell stuff on eSnips.
Since we are not an ecommerce site, we were really surprised with the number of people who ecommerce enabled their sites. This is excellent; it fits very nicely into our vision of 'One place for all of ones online sharing needs'. We're proud to be the first social site to allow it's users to go one step further beyond just sharing and socializing. The most interesting thing about selling on eSnips is the exposure to the personal facets of the seller and often the buyer. It reminds us of the real life 'Virtual fair' or 'Open studio' where you don't just see the item for sale in a gallery, you rather get to know a lot about the person you buy from, his personal interests and social scene.
Interesting concept.
Digital assets commerce is still being shaped in many ways, with several models of trade markets tested.
Also, there are several consumer types which have emerged in these markets, where music consumers are a clear leading segment.
Would be great to hear more insights on this "eSnips" trade arena - consuming habits, evolving trends etc.
Also, a model for sponsored items (like ebay) would follow I guess.
We'll certainly take a look at the site and invest some thiking in it.
