As per the previous post, the down time is currently planned for Tuesday (tomorrow) at 2am ET. It should last between 3 - 5 hours.  During the down time, the service will not be accessible.  We'll update again in case of changes.  Thanks. 

Expecting service turbulences this week

Hallo eSnippers:  eSnips has been growing fast and needs a bigger and faster home. We are moving to a new and better data center and are upgrading the equipment and the bandwidth. Bottom line:  You'll get a faster and more reliable service.

It’s a pretty complex transition that has been in the planning and work for several months now. The transition of the entire service, with the many terabytes of content hosted, has started today and should end in 8 days. There should not be significant disruptions but you may occasionally experience a slower response during this week. We will also have to take the service down for between 3 to 5 hours on the last day of the transition.  We will provide an advance notice 24 – 48 hours head of the down time and will make every effort to keep it to the minimum. 

Playlists: New Feature Added Today

I’ve been waiting for this feature for quite a while as I am a big listener to music on eSnips. So here’s how it works: Every music file now has a button next to it that reads ‘Add to playlist’, if you click on it, it will add the file to your the playlist which will appear at the top of the page. You can play selected songs from a folder, or the entire folder in one click. It’s not limited to just one folder, you can add to your play-list any music you discover anywhere on eSnips.

Note that currently, the play-list is not saved beyond your specific visit to eSnips. So when you close the playlist, or leave eSnips, it will not be saved. In upcoming versions (soon) we will add the ability to save and share play-lists. Also coming up soon.... Playlist Widgets!  YES, YOUR HEARD IT RIGHT :)

More excellent coverage for our Micro-portals annoucement at CES, Las Vegas

PC World – Dan Tynan covered the Micro-portals in his 'Top picks from CES' piece. Here's a quote:

eWeek – Brian Prince wrote an article following a very interesting phone interview and conversation we had earlier in the week. Brian focused on how the Micro-portals marketplace can benefit small businesses.

"eSnips MicroPortals Offer Business, Social Opportunities -  ...  For fans of everything from photography to poetry, eSnips plans to offer centralized communities called MicroPortals where work can be shared and sold."

Our CES Showstoppers Givaway

Our team ‘armed’ me with a very neat and  original giveaway for the CES conference in Las Vegas where we announced the Microportals yesterday (January 7).

It’s a small eSnips branded chocolate box containing 3 excellent pralines, one of them has Snippy on it. This giveaway turned out to be a hit!

There is also a cause that we were happy to support here. Choconoy, the company who creates these chocolates does it as a project to supply the need for a friendly and supportive working environment for people with special needs. A place providing a creative and satisfying occupation together with an opportunity for self-fulfillment and a better life. The founders are great people, had the opportunity to meet them in person and chat.

Microportal annouced at CES

soWe officiailly annouced the eSnips Micro-Portals at CES, Las Vegas at the Showstoppers event on Jan 8.  The Micro-Portals have been receiving very enthusiastic feedback from eSnippers from the very first day they they were added, I didn’t expect the press however to respond as positively to this very new concept. I am amazed at how the Micro-portals are resonating with the media and pretty much everybody I talk to about the Micro-portals.   

Here are some of the first pieces about the Micro-Portals. Many more should come out in the next 48 hours.
Vivek Puri from Startupsquad wrote a great review.  Pete Cashmore from Mashable (who I must finally meet sometime) also wrote positively . Gary Price from resourceshelf, who I've known and admired for covered it very nicely too. 

Here's me doing a radio interview for Dave Graveline's "Into Tomorrow" radio show. "Into Tomorrow" broadcasts on both Satellite services, XM and Sirius along with 110 radio stations around the country, the 5 Armed Forces Networks,  Streaming, Podcasts and several other sources.

About DJs, Micro-portals and Widgets

Since the DJ Micro-portal went live a couple of months ago, the number of DJs that joined the community grew from a few tens to two thousand. Great viral growth for just one micro-portal. The DJs have some great stuff going and a lot of diversity. We are already receiving requests to split to the DJ community into small genre specific Micro-portals; hip-hop and club.

This very cool community has greatly inspired our new generation of widgets.  These new widgets, featuring DJSnippy ‘mov`n 2 the beat’, are not just links to the music file, the are actual players that will play the entire mix from any web site.  Next version will also include entire play lists.   
Other music styles have their own widgets of course.
